Two of the pipes are of 'Irish' type (Atkinson and Oswald 1969, type 31, dated post-1840), with spurs and milled bowl rims, and the remaining five are of a spur-less form copying the briar pipe (ibid., type 30, dated c. 1850-1910). All of the clay pipes are 'cutty' (short) pipes. The spur-less examples are all stamped with the mark 'H B W Russell Co.'. This appears to be the mark of an agent or retailer rather than the pipe manufacturer (as is more usual). H. B. W. Russell may have a connection with Liverpool - pipes stamped 'HBW Russell of Liverpool' have been found in Ghana (Basford 2012), but the company also had a base in Cape Town (Micots 2010).</description><notes>These items were found with three cylindrical glass bottles (MAS-D100084), the lid of a ceramic serving dish MAS-D100087) and two green glass gin bottles (MAS-D100101). </notes><reuse/><reusePeriodID/><created>2017-08-11 10:45:35</created><updated>2017-12-07 16:38:35</updated><secwfstage>3</secwfstage><findofnote/><objecttypecert>1</objecttypecert><datefound1>2017-08-06</datefound1><datefound2/><inscription/><museumAccession/><subsequentAction>28</subsequentAction><objectCertainty>Certain</objectCertainty><dateFromCertainty/><dateToCertainty/><dateFoundFromCertainty/><dateFoundToCertainty/><subPeriodFrom/><subPeriodTo/><objdate1period>39</objdate1period><objdate2period>41</objdate2period><secuid>85</secuid><material1>5</material1><material2/><manmethod/><decmethod/><decstyle/><complete>4</complete><surface/><manufactureID/><culture/><recorderID>PAS5989C577001EA7</recorderID><identifier1ID>PAS57BC21F300115B</identifier1ID><identifier2ID>PAS57BC1E1600176F</identifier2ID><smrRef/><createdBy>2</createdBy><updatedBy>2</updatedBy><hoardcontainer/><institution>MAS</institution><reason/><fullname>MAS</fullname><primaryMaterial>Ceramic</primaryMaterial><primaryBMmaterial>10539</primaryBMmaterial><secondaryMaterial/><secondaryBMmaterial/><decoration/><style/><manufacture/><surfaceTreatment/><completeness>Complete</completeness><preservation>Good</preservation><periodFrom>NINETEENTH CENTURY</periodFrom><seneschalPeriodFrom/><bmPeriodFrom/><periodoPeriodFrom/><periodTo>MODERN</periodTo><seneschalPeriodTo>MO</seneschalPeriodTo><bmPeriodTo/><periodoPeriodTo>p0gjgrsgn96</periodoPeriodTo><reusePeriod/><ascribedCulture/><culturePeriodo/><cultureBM/><discmethod>Diving</discmethod><identifier>L M</identifier><secondaryIdentifier>V L</secondaryIdentifier><recorder>L R</recorder><fromCirca/><toCirca/><findSpotID>85</findSpotID><countyID>18210</countyID><parishID/><districtID/><regionID/><fourFigure>TR3844</fourFigure><map25k>TR3844</map25k><map10k>TR34SE</map10k><knownas/><fourFigureLat>51.1457526</fourFigureLat><fourFigureLon>1.4013985</fourFigureLon><woeid/><gridlen>10</gridlen><geonamesID/><accuracy>1</accuracy><what3words>ramp.slouched.ambient</what3words><source/><coinID/><obverseDescription/><obverseInscription/><reverseDescription/><reverseInscription/><cciNumber/><denominationID/><degreeOfWear/><allenType/><vaType/><mackType/><abcType/><bmcType/><reeceID/><dieAxis/><moneyer/><revtypeID/><categoryID/><typeID/><tribeID/><statusID/><rulerQualifier/><denominationQualifier/><mintQualifier/><dieAxisCertainty/><initialMark/><reverseMintMark/><statusQualifier/><ruler1/><ruler2/><mintID/><rrcID/><ricID/><tribe/><ironAgeRegion/><ironAgeArea/><denomination/><nomismaDenomination/><dbpediaDenomination/><bmDenomination/><primaryRuler/><viaf/><rulerDbpedia/><nomismaRulerID/><secondaryRuler/><periodName/><dateRange/><mintName/><nomismaMintID/><pleiadesID/><mintGeonamesID/><mintWoeid/><mintOsID/><mintGettyID/><mintWoeID/><mintDbPediaID/><mintWhat3Words/><mintBritMuseumID/><wear/><nomismaWear/><dieAxisName/><category/><type/><moneyerID/><nomismaMoneyer/><emperorID/><romanMintID/><reverseType/><status/><jettonClass/><jettonType/><jettonGroup/><thumbnail>205</thumbnail><filename>IMG_2279.JPG</filename><imagedir>images/MAS</imagedir><region/><rallyID/><rallyName/><rallyDateFrom/><rallyDateTo/><landuse/><landvalue/><regionType/><countyType>County</countyType><county>Kent</county><districtType/><district/><parishType/><centreLat/><centreLon/><parish/><subsequentActionTerm>Submitted as wreck to the Receiver of Wreck</subsequentActionTerm><bmThesObject/><seneschalObject>95639</seneschalObject></artefact></response>
