The ancient historical writers, chiefly <a title=\"Suetonius\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Suetonius\">Suetonius<\/a> and <a title=\"Tacitus\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tacitus\">Tacitus<\/a>, write from the point of view of the Roman senatorial aristocracy, and portray the Emperors in generally negative terms, whether from preference for the <a title=\"Roman Republic\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roman_Republic\">Roman Republic<\/a> or love of a good scandalous story.<\/p>",
