			"description":"<p>The <strong>Julio-Claudian dynasty<\/strong> normally refers to the first five <a title=\"Roman Emperors\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roman_Emperors\">Roman Emperors<\/a>: <a title=\"Augustus\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Augustus\">Augustus<\/a>, <a title=\"Tiberius\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tiberius\">Tiberius<\/a>, <a title=\"Caligula\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Caligula\">Caligula<\/a> (Gaius), <a title=\"Claudius\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Claudius\">Claudius<\/a>, and <a title=\"Nero\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nero\">Nero<\/a>,<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Julio-Claudian_dynasty#cite_note-0\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> or the family to which they belonged; they ruled the <a title=\"Roman Empire\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roman_Empire\">Roman Empire<\/a> from its formation, in the second half of the first century BC, until <a title=\"AD 68\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AD_68\">AD 68<\/a>, when the last of the line, <a title=\"Nero\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nero\">Nero<\/a>, committed suicide.<\/p>\r\n<p>None of the Julio-Claudians were succeeded by their sons; only one of them had a legitimate son survive him. The ancient historical writers, chiefly <a title=\"Suetonius\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Suetonius\">Suetonius<\/a> and <a title=\"Tacitus\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tacitus\">Tacitus<\/a>, write from the point of view of the Roman senatorial aristocracy, and portray the Emperors in generally negative terms, whether from preference for the <a title=\"Roman Republic\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roman_Republic\">Roman Republic<\/a> or love of a good scandalous story.<\/p>",
