He was given a triumph in 100 BC for his handling of an insurgency in Sicily; he was subsequently accused of maladministration in Sicily but was acquitted because of his former bravery. He died when captured during the Mithridatic war; Mithridates tortured him and poured molten gold down Aquillius' throat.",
