LOUVRE An opening in the ridge of a roof intended to provide ventilation or an outlet for smoke; also the hood on such an opening that prevents rain entering. Preferred term 137964 -
LOUVRE A fitting incorporating a series of overlapping flaps providing ventilation or transmission of sound. Preferred term 97590 -
LOUVRED OPENING An opening normally in a door or window filled with diagonally set slats to provide ventilation. Preferred term 137965 -
LOW BREASTSHOT WHEEL A waterwheel where water enters below the axle but above the bottom of the wheel. Preferred term 92520 -
LOW HOUSE A storehouse in 16th and 17th century houses. Preferred term 71499 -
LOW LIGHT A lighthouse whose lantern is sufficiently low to be seen below low lying cloud. In locations where varying weather conditions occur a Low Light is usually accompanied by a HIGH LIGHT built alongside or nearby. Preferred term 90915 -

LOZENGE A decorative moulding in a diamond shape. Preferred term 137967 -
LUBRICATING OIL Oil used to lubricate moving parts, particularly in machinery. Preferred term 79071 -
LUCAM A projecting structure in the roof of a mill containing a winch, allowing loads to be lifted clear of the building's wall and protecting the winch from the weather. Preferred term 138881 -
LUCARNE A window in a spire, often in the form of a dormer. Preferred term 137968 -

LUCIFER MATCH A early match made of a piece of wood and an inflammable substance, lit by friction between the inflammable substance and a rough surface. Preferred term 97592 -
