Details for Aemilius Scaurus, M. - Roman Republican moneyer

Republican moneyer who became Praetor in 56 BC. King Aretas of Nabataea surrendered to him while Scaurus was proquaestor of Judea (recorded in Josephus, Jewish Antiquities). He may be the maternal uncle of the moneyer Mn. Acilius and a relative of Sulla. He was on trial in 54 BC under charges of extortion in his province, and was defended by Cicero. In 53 BC he was charged with ambitio and went into exile.
