Details for Ventidius Bassus, P. - Roman Republican moneyer

Republican moneyer who was born in Picenum and taken as a captive to Rome during the Social Wars. He worked his way up in the Roman Army, gained the notice of Julius Caesar, and became his protégé. He eventually chose Mark Antony's side in the Antony/Octavian struggle after the assasination of Caesar, and is remembered for a superb victory against the Parthians (for which he celebrated a triumph in Rome).
