Object types that the Scheme uses

These terms are from the FISH Archaeological Objects Thesaurus (Forum on Information Standards in Heritage - FISH).

SECRET BRIDLE JOINT A bridle joint which is invisible from all sides of the timber. Preferred term 138219 -
SECRET NOTCHED LAP JOINT A joint with a notch cut into its invisible inner face. Preferred term 138220 -
SECTION HOUSE A building providing lodgings for members of the police force. Preferred term 93267 -
SECTION POST A large pillbox-like structure, often L-shaped or angular, with numerous loopholes used as a defensive position. Preferred term 160368 -
SECTIONAL HUT (TYPE A) A prefabricated structure consisting of sectional timber framed units that were bolted together. The structure was clad with Canadian Cedar weatherboarding and had a roof of corrugated asbestos. They were used as temporary accommodation on airfields. Preferred term 159292 -
SECTIONAL HUT (TYPE B) A prefabricated structure consisting of sectional timber framed units that were bolted together. The structure was clad with weatherboarding and had a felted roof. They were used as temporary accommodation on airfields. Also see 'Type A' Preferred term 159293 -
SECULAR CATHEDRAL A cathedral in which the chapter was composed of canons who lived in their own houses and were not governed by a monastic rule. Nine such cathedrals existed in England between the 11th and 16th centuries. Preferred term 93268 -
SECULAR HALL The meeting hall of a secular or ethical society. Preferred term 93269 -
SECURE STORAGE CONTAINER A container designed to be difficult to get into or out of, thus ensuring the safety of objects inside the container. Preferred term 97231 -
SEDAN CHAIR An enclosed chair for carrying a person, usually carried by two people. Preferred term 97136 -
SEDAN CHAIR LIFT A stepped, roadside platform, usually of stone on which a sedan chair was placed to allow the porters to lift the chair without having to bend. Preferred term 93270 -
SEDILIA Set of three seats for the clergy found in the chancel Preferred term 139330 -
SEDILIA BUILDING A building containing a series of seats for use by the clergy during services. The seats are usually placed in the church and as such this is a very rare monument type, being purpose-built. An example being St. Germoe's Chair in Germoe, Cornwall. Preferred term 93271 -
SEED The grains of various plants from which new plants grown. Preferred term 79172 -
SEGMENTAL ARCH An arch made up of part of a circle, the centre of which is below its springing line. Preferred term 138221 -
Segmental Arch Bridge Narrow term 94194 -
SEGMENTED ARMOUR Armour made up segmentally, usually of bands of material. Preferred term 100015 -
SEGMENTED DITCH A ditch which is not continuous but instead is made up of segments which may vary in length and width. Preferred term 145101 -

SEISMOLOGY STATION A building housing the instrumentation necessary for the observation and measurement of tremors generated by earthquakes. Preferred term 159212 -

SEMAPHORE STATION A signal station incorporating equipment for visually conveying coded communications. Preferred term 68686 -
