SCRATCH DIAL A set of marks found on the wall of a building, thought to be a form of sundial. Preferred term 70409 -
SCREEN A vertical partition used to separate one area from another. Preferred term 138210 -

SCREENING PLANT A type of coal preparation plant for the sizing, sorting and washing of coal. Preferred term 71819 -
SCREENS HOUSE A building housing filters for sewage. Usually associated with a sewage pumping station. Preferred term 93250 -
SCREENS PASSAGE A passage that runs axially across the end of a hall with a screen between it and the hall and doorways to service rooms on the other side. Preferred term 138211 -
SCREW A spirally grooved object used to join two or more materials together. Preferred term 96302 -

SCRIBBLING MILL A mill used for the preparation of raw fleece etc, for spinning by a coarse form of carding. Preferred term 69323 -
SCRIBED JOINT A joint in which the end of one timber is shaped to fit around the moulding on another. Preferred term 138212 -
SCRIBED MITRE The junction of two timbers at right angles, with chamfers or mouldings meeting on a diagonal line, where one timber is cut to fit around the chamfer or moulding of the other timber. Preferred term 138213 -
