TOR CAIRN A circular bank of stones and turf, sometimes accompanied by a ditch, surrounding a natural outcrop of rock, usually a tor, or an earthfast boulder. Preferred term 70052 -
TOR ENCLOSURE A large hilltop or hillslope enclosure in South West England, located close to rock outcrops, and surrounded by one or more circuits of stone built walls. All are prehistoric; some are definitely Neolithic. Preferred term 99535 -

TORPEDO BOAT DESTROYER A small fast warship developed in the late nineteenth century. Armed principally with quick firing guns to destroy enemy torpedo boats. Preferred term - -

TORPEDO RANGE CONTROL BUILDING A building from which the firing of torpedoes can be controlled and evaluated. Preferred term 143440 -
TORPEDO RECOVERY VESSEL A craft used to retrieve torpedoes after practice firings. Preferred term - -
TORPEDO STATION A land based establishment armed with torpedoes and used to defend the coast from enemy shipping. Preferred term 85645 -

TOWER HOUSE A multi-storey, fortified hall house with one of the crosswings being raised in the form of a crenellated tower. Permanently occupied, they date from the mid 14th to the 17th century and are found mainly in the border counties of the North of England. Preferred term 68914 -
