WATER GATE A gate leading to water, either a river or the sea. Used as a means of supplying castles, for example, with goods brought by water transport. Preferred term 68920 -
WATER LEAF CAPITAL A late 12th Century capital featuring large, unribbed leaves growing outwards from each angle before curving up towards the abacus and turning inwards at the top. Preferred term 138914 -
WATER LILY HOUSE A garden building or greenhouse, containing pools in which Water Lilies are grown. Preferred term 93763 -
WATER MEADOW Grassland fertilized by allowing floodwater to cover it in winter. Preferred term 68640 -
WATER METER HOUSE A building in which apparatus measuring the amount of water supplied/used is housed. Preferred term 104233 -
WATER PAVILION A type of GARDEN HOUSE situated on an island in a garden lake or canal or, more generally, by any waterside. Preferred term 71612 -
WATER PIPE A pipe through which water is conducted. Preferred term 70463 -
WATER PIPE (ARCHITECTURAL) A pipe allowing the passage of water through it and designed only for this. Preferred term 100086 -
WATER PIPE (SMOKING) A pipe used for smoking where the smoke passes through water. Preferred term 97686 -

WATER PUMP A point of public water supply, including conduits, fountains, wells, pumps and standpipes. Preferred term 71413 -

WATER PURIFICATION UNIT A machine used for the purification of water, usually for drinking purposes. Preferred term 141878 -
WATER REGULATION INSTALLATION Buildings, structures and sites for regulating the flow of water. Preferred term 93768 -
WATER RETURNING ENGINE A steam engine, often used in the 18th century, which drove a pump to return water back to a waterwheel so that it could be used over and over again. Preferred term 138418 -

WATER SPORTS CENTRE An area of land incorporating bodies of water, either natural or manmade for use in water sports activities such as canoeing, rowing and sailing. Usually includes a leisure complex with facilities for the users. Preferred term 159277 -
WATER SPOUT A pipe or channel to carry water outwards from a gutter or behind a parapet. If decorated with grotesque heads it is called a gargoyle. Preferred term 139782 -
