WALL PLATE A longitudinal timber set on top of a timber frame, brick or masonry wall on which roof-trusses or rafters rest. Preferred term 138411 -
WALL POST A post, usually carrying a tiebeam, which forms part of a wall in a timber framed building. Preferred term 138412 -
WALL RIB An arched half-rib applied to the lateral wall surface in a vaulted bay, its function, rather than structural, being to complete the pattern of the vault's main ribs. Preferred term 138912 -

WALL TIE A fastener used within a cavity wall to hold the two sides together. Preferred term 96132 -
WALL WALK A walkway on the top of a defensive wall, providing access to the parapets and towers. Preferred term 159217 -
WALLED CEMETERY A high status, walled, Roman burial ground containing cremations and/or inhumations in mausolea, tombs, barrows, coffins or cists. Dating from the late 1st to the 4th Century AD. DO NOT USE for cemeteries of later dates which are walled. Preferred term 100531 -

WALLOWER The first driven gearwheel on the vertical shaft within a corn mill which meshes with the brake wheel in a windmill, or the pit wheel in a watermill. Preferred term 139518 -
