HONEY A sweet fluid substance, the nectar of flowers, gathered and worked up for food by insects such as bees. Preferred term 145061 -
HOOD (CLOTHING) A head cover which can be attached to a piece of outerwear, eg a coat, or can be separate. Preferred term 100052 -
HOOD (HAWKING) The hood used to completely cover a hawk's head. Preferred term 100051 -

HOOK An object which has been bent and angled from which something else can be caught or suspended. Preferred term 96274 -
HOOKED TAG A garment hook having a flat plate, often decorated, with two or more holes for attachment and a hooked projection. The term is often used for early Medieval examples. Preferred term 96642 -
HOOP HOUSE A building in which hoops (for masts) were heated. Preferred term 92256 -
HOOTER A steam whistle or siren used for signalling purposes. Preferred term 71595 -
HOP BARN A barn used to store hops. Preferred term 92257 -
HOP EXCHANGE A commercial building used primarily as a trading place for breweries and hop merchants. Preferred term 92258 -
HOP GARDEN A piece of land used for the cultivation of hops. Preferred term 68642 -

HOP KILN A kiln for drying hops in a brewery or maltings complex, as distinct from the OASTHOUSES found on farms. Preferred term 68563 -

HOPPER A funnel-like container from which grain or other material is fed to a grinding mechanism below. Preferred term 139514 -

HOPPER BARGE A vessel used to carry away mud etc from a dredging machine and discharging it elsewhere. Preferred term - -
HOPPER DREDGER A dredger which can act as its own hopper and can thus transport the mud which it picks up to dump it at the desired place. Preferred term - -
HOPPERS HUT A hut provided as accommodation for hop pickers and may also be know as a Hop Pickers' Hut Preferred term 142084 -
